Duke Addy is a sophomore Psychology major from Farmington, Connecticut. He has minors in Politics and Theatre, is currently the president of the Men of Color group on campus, works at the Humanities Institute, and is regularly involved in Abbey Players productions.
Rachel Bender is a senior Music major with a double minor in French and Great Books. Throughout her time at St. A’s, Rachel has been very involved in the music department, both in a vocal capacity with the College Choir as well as instrumentally with her violin. She recently performed as the soloist in her senior thesis production of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with a group of accompanying musicians. Outside of St. A’s, she is a member of the chamber music group Lilia Rose Strings in which she enjoys playing music with her sisters and best friend at farmer’s markets and other venues. In addition to music, Rachel is a great lover of the French language and enjoys farming, reading, and drawing.
Ryan Bender is a sophomore finance major and is an active member of the St. A’s community. He has served for two years as a senator on his class council, he is the president of the Hawks for Life pro-life club on campus, and he is involved in the college choir, the club ultimate frisbee team, and the college republicans. In his free time, Ryan enjoys playing the piano and the guitar, exercising, going to Mass, and spending time with his friends. Ryan also loves traveling as much as possible and studying new languages that intrigue him. He has many interests but is either too lazy or too intelligent to spend sufficient time pursuing them.
Diego Benites is a senior History and American Studies major with a gender studies minor. He was the recipient of the Honors Program Summer Research Fellowship, which supported him in conducting his research. Upon graduation, he will be pursuing a Master's degree for history in hopes of aiding him in a potential career in public history.
Owen Bland is a Sophomore International Relations major with minors in Creative and Professional Writing and Theatre Arts hailing from Northeast Connecticut. On Campus, he keeps himself busy as an Abbey Player, Resident Assistant, NHIOP Ambassador, and many other things. Off campus he can be found outdoors most of the time, indoors some of the time, and if possible with a book in hand. He has incredible gratitude for all the loved ones who have gotten him to pursue writing. Words fail to describe it.
Jaclyn Dziadose is a Politics and Music Double major with an International Relations Minor. Additionally, she is Vice President of French Club, a N.H.I.O.P Ambassador, a Copyeditor for the Crier, and a member of the Honors Program! She loves to read, write, draw, play the cello, and everything about music. She also loves to study history, geography, and politics, which, along with my passion for music, prompted me to want to learn more about composers of the past, their works, and how their influence has been carried on through contemporaries and into the present.
Alaina Frias is a sophomore biology major who minors in both chemistry and studio art. She is in the honors program and currently pursues research on convict cichlid fish, and invasive fiddler crabs. She is excited for her work to have been selected for Humanitas, as it represents her identity as a liberal art’s student.
Isabelle Gross is a Junior Theology major with a minor in Education. She is a peer tutor in the ARC, a student worker at Geisel Library and a member of the college choir. She loves old books, hot tea, and long conversations. Isabelle would like to thank the teachers and friends would have encouraged her to write poetry and those who provide inspiration for her poems.
Hope Jensen is a senior Classical Archaeology major with a double minor in English and Theology from Hamilton, Massachusetts. She is a member of the Abbey Choir, the Pep Band where she is a student Conductor, the Abbey Players where she performs and is the Director of Costuming, Hair, and Makeup. She also works in the Chapel Art Center and is a Resident Assistant. In her free time, she loves to read, listen to music, and spend time with her friends. Thank you for the continued support of Humanitas and the Liberal Arts. This makes the campus community, and the greater community a better place.
Vivi Kane is an Honors student of psychology in her junior year at Saint Anselm College. She is a proud graduate from Manchester Community College with an associate's degree in behavioral science, specializing in substance use disorders and family services. Vivi is mother to a beaming, articulate, analytical 3-year-old daughter who is often seen attending evening lectures together!
Christine Landry is a senior Environmental Studies and French double major from Plymouth, MA. On campus, she is president of Respect the Nest and French Club, and she also plays on the Women’s Club Ice Hockey team. She loves reading, writing, traveling, and she is an avid fan of Survivor. After graduation, she aspires to learn more languages. Christine lived in Aix-en-Provence, France for a semester. She is thankful to have the opportunity to publish her work alongside such impressive student writers.
Emma Link is a senior French major with a double minor in International Relations and Gender Studies. This is her second time having work published by Humanitas, and she is grateful to the staff for this opportunity. She hopes you enjoy this collection of truly spectacular work from the Saint Anselm student community.
Asher Manning is a Secondary Education and History double major working towards getting a Master’s in Special Education. They are queer artist who, outside of school, spends time creating. They write poetry and stories, paint, sculpt, read, and listen to music. The goal of their work is to give a voice to nature, express their individuality, and show what they believe in and why they believe it. They only have so many words to describe my dreams and purpose, but their thoughts are endless. They hope you enjoy their work.
Samuel Marcotte is a sophomore Honors English major with minors in Communication, Creative/Professional Writing, and Theatre. Sam is involved with multiple organizations at Saint Anselm College, including the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, The Dana Center, and Resident Life and Education. Sam is in love with theatre, art, and the humanities. He thanks his friends and family for their love and support.
Megan McLaughlin is a senior English and Secondary Education major at Saint A’s with a minor in Creative and Professional Writing. She hopes to pursue a career in education, and to always maintain writing as part of her life. In her free time, she enjoys reading, drinking tea with lots of honey, gardening and going on walks with her family. Megan is very grateful to have been able to contribute to the Humanitas Journal, and is in awe at the various forms of creative expression that her peers have put forth for others to experience.
Julia Mehlin is a junior English major and Professional and Creative Writing minor. With a specific passion for Victorian Literature, Julia hopes to continue her studies in that field after graduation. She is honored and grateful to be published among her talented peers in the Humanitas journal, and she looks forward to pursuing writing in the future.
Annabella Pizzi is a senior student from Braintree, Massachusetts. She is a double major in History and Spanish with a minor in Gender Studies. This fall semester, she completed my Senior History Thesis on the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934. Next year, she plans to participate in the NALCAP program in Spain to further develop her Spanish skills in preparation for a future career in law.
Kyla Prussman is a senior International Relations major and French minor from Rowley, MA. She is also on the women's cross country and track and field teams and run primarily long distance. After graduation she’s returning to Saint Anselm to get her masters in the new Public Policy program. She is interested in working in peace building within high ethnic conflict areas and international law concerning human's rights. She loves hanging out with my friends, going on walks and runs, and going to the beach. Thank you to all the Professors in the politics department!
Caraline Stewart is a junior at Saint Anselm College. While majoring in mathematics and in music, she revels in her passion for all things art. She writes and performs music in any spare moment she finds and enjoys painting when the inspiration comes. In the two pieces that she is honored to have featured in this edition of the journal, Caraline illustrates stories through both her poetry and within the saturated colors she loves to display in each of her paintings. Although Caraline hopes to pursue a career in data analytics, she will always be creating art in some way shape or form.
